Josh Tongue led the attack with 4-42, while Ollie Robinson and Jofra Archer claimed three wickets each. Robinson’s haul took him to 100 Test wickets.
Pakistan’s top five failed to reach double figures, with Saud Shakeel’s 43 the main contribution. The tourists have now failed to reach 200 in each of their past four innings.
England also benefited from Emilio Gay’s 60 and a 104-run partnership with Harry Brook, who passed 50. The stand carried England into a first-innings lead before Gay was dismissed.
Pakistan made four changes, including three debutants, after a week of squad and coaching upheaval. England had already won the first two Tests and are now positioned to pursue a 3-0 series clean sweep, although the match remains in its opening stages.
The result continued England’s pace-bowling dominance across the series. BBC Sport reported that Pakistan’s batting struggles had again left them under sustained pressure at Edgbaston.
