Engadget has published a preparation guide for iPhone users ahead of the reported iOS 27 update, advising them to check storage, power, connectivity and backups before installation.

The guide recommends having about 18–25GB of free storage for the download and temporary files. It also advises keeping the iPhone charged, preferably while plugged in, and connected to Wi-Fi during the update process.

Users can choose automatic installation through Settings or start the update manually. Engadget says automatic installation is scheduled to occur overnight while the iPhone is charging and connected to Wi-Fi, rather than immediately when the update becomes available.

The guide also recommends updating to iOS 26.6 first, which it says includes an indexing update intended to support changes to Siri. It advises backing up data through iCloud or to a Mac or Windows PC, and keeping Apple ID credentials available after the update.

According to Engadget, iOS 27 supports iPhone 11 and newer models and includes design changes, faster performance, child-safety features and a substantially revamped Siri app. The source package does not include an official Apple citation independently confirming those claims, the storage recommendation or release timing.
