Eight wounded in shooting near high school in western Turkiye

Eight people, including students, were injured after an armed man opened fire near a vocational high school in western Turkiye, according to the Manisa governor’s office.
The shooting was reported at 07:59 local time on Tuesday near Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Turgutlu district, Manisa province. The injured were taken to local hospitals. Their identities and conditions were not immediately provided.
Police detained a suspect believed to have fired the weapon after he allegedly tried to flee the scene, the governor’s office said. Authorities had not announced a motive.
The available report places the shooting near the school but does not establish whether the school itself was attacked. Images circulated online that were said to show the suspect had not been independently verified.
The incident follows two school shootings in Turkiye in April. One in Sanliurfa province left 16 people, mostly students, wounded, while a separate attack in Kahramanmaras province killed nine people and injured 13 others.
