Dodgers Week 9: Two series wins against National League playoff hopefuls
Freeman’s power surge and Yamamoto’s consistency anchor a 4-2 week for Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Dodgers concluded a demanding road trip with a 4-2 performance for the week, securing series victories against two National League playoff contenders, the San Diego Padres and the Milwaukee Brewers. The team’s record on the current road swing improved to 7-2, bolstered by their ability to rebound after losing the opening game of each series. By winning the subsequent two games in both matchups, Los Angeles strengthened its standing in the league.

Freddie Freeman provided the primary offensive catalyst during the week, recording two home runs and three doubles alongside 10 walks. Although he did not register a single hit, his overall production resulted in a 1.379 OPS. On the mound, Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered consistent performances, pitching seven innings and allowing just one run in two starts to bookend the week’s games.

Statistically, the Dodgers scored 26 runs across the week, averaging 4.33 per game, while allowing 14 runs, or 2.33 per game. This performance yielded a pythagorean win percentage of .756 for the period. The team’s cumulative season record now stands at 33-20, with 274 runs scored and 168 allowed, maintaining a season-long pythagorean win percentage of .710.

The organization also executed significant roster adjustments to support its pitching staff. Jonathan Hernández signed with the Dodgers after opting out of a minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, joining the bullpen immediately. Concurrently, trade acquisition Eric Lauer was activated, while Wyatt Mills was optioned to the minors. Pitcher Chayce McDermott was also optioned after spending a single day on the major league roster.

Los Angeles now returns home to host the Colorado Rockies and the Philadelphia Phillies. The upcoming series against Philadelphia carries historical weight, as the Phillies are managed by Don Mattingly, a former manager of the Dodgers. The team prepares to face the Rockies in what is described as the Kenny Roberts gauntlet as they continue their season campaign.
