Dodgers secure August series victory with walk-off win over Royals

The game was defined by the return of starting pitcher Blake Snell to the rotation. Snell, who had undergone a procedure to remove loose bodies from his elbow, delivered a commanding performance, pitching six innings of one-run baseball. He recorded 10 strikeouts, including striking out the side in the first inning, providing the Dodgers with the stability required to navigate a tense contest.
Offensively, Mookie Betts provided an early spark by hitting his 14th home run of the season in the second inning. The blast ended a 66-at-bat drought, though the Royals responded shortly after with a sacrifice fly from Salvador Perez that brought Bobby Witt Jr. home. The Dodgers’ offense remained quiet for several innings, managing only one additional hit through the sixth.
The Dodgers’ bats came alive in the seventh inning against Royals starter Michael Wacha. Betts doubled to initiate the rally, followed by doubles from Alex Call and Teoscar Hernandez, which brought in two runs to give Los Angeles a 3-1 lead. However, the Royals mounted a comeback in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs to take a 4-3 advantage. Jac Caglianone drove in Nick Loftin with a single, and Perez added another RBI with a single. A defensive error by Andy Pages, who dropped a line drive in centre field, allowed Caglianone to score from second base on a tag-up.
Betts helped stabilise the game in the eighth with an RBI single to tie the score at 4-4. After a scoreless ninth inning, the game proceeded to extra innings. Seth Halvorsen made his Dodgers debut in the 10th, stranding runner Kyle Isbel to preserve the tie. Max Muncy ultimately secured the victory with a single into centre field in the bottom of the 10th, driving home the winning run. The series finale is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. PT.
