DJI launches Mic Mini 2S with internal 32-bit float recording, excluding US market

DJI has released the Mic Mini 2S, an updated wireless microphone system designed for content creators that introduces internal 32-bit float recording capabilities. The device features 14.5GB of internal memory per transmitter, allowing for approximately 22 hours of 32-bit float audio or 28 hours of 24-bit audio. This addition provides a safety net against audio clipping and offers a high-quality backup for professional workflows.
The system supports up to four simultaneous microphones, an increase from previous iterations, and utilises AI-powered noise reduction to manage environmental interference. The transmitters weigh 12 grams and include a new orange power button and a slightly more transparent clear cover. The camera receiver features a volume knob, 3.5mm mic port, and a hot shoe clip, while the smartphone receiver includes a USB-C pass-through for charging.
Battery performance is rated at 11 hours for transmitters and 10 hours for the receiver. The accompanying charging case provides approximately 40 hours of continuous use, a specification that DJI claims outperforms rivals in the same price bracket, including the Rode Wireless Go III and Hollyland Lark M2. The Mimo app offers adaptive gain control and three voice tone presets: Rich, Bright, and Regular.
Testing indicates that while the 32-bit float audio prevents clipping when camera levels are set incorrectly, the voice quality may lack the accuracy of high-end broadcast lavaliere microphones. Minor distortion in the voice range was noted during isolated frequency testing, though the AI noise reduction shows improvement over the previous model, particularly in the Basic setting where voice quality degradation is minimal.
The camera kit is priced at £169 in Europe and $265 CAD in Canada, with a smartphone kit available for £79 or $149 CAD. However, the product remains unavailable in the United States due to a national security ban. No timeline has been provided for potential US availability.
