Dafroza Gauthier, who spent nearly three decades tracking Rwandan genocide suspects who had taken refuge in France, has died aged 72.

She died in Reims on Saturday, her husband Alain Gauthier announced on Sunday, according to France 24 International. The report gave no details about the circumstances of her death.

The couple tracked Rwandan refugees in France suspected of involvement in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. More than 800,000 people were killed, the report said.

Gauthier’s work centred on efforts to bring those allegedly responsible to justice. The people tracked by the couple were suspected of involvement; the report does not establish their guilt.
