Cyan Worlds Brings Myst and Riven Remakes to PlayStation and Xbox
Developer Cyan Worlds is updating Myst and Riven for next-generation consoles with ray-tracing and PS VR2 compatibility, priced at $35 each.

Developer Cyan Worlds is set to release updated versions of the adventure games Myst and Riven for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Microsoft Store. These titles, which were previously available only on PC and macOS, have been modernised to take advantage of current console hardware. The games will officially launch on May 19, with each title priced at $35.
The new releases feature significantly enhanced visuals, including ray-traced reflections. On the PlayStation 5, players can choose between a 2D flat screen mode and virtual reality support via the PS VR2 headset. The flatscreen version includes a Performance Mode that increases the frame rate from 30fps to 60fps, though this requires disabling certain graphical features. Owners of the PS5 Pro console will see further improvements, with the games marked as "PS5 Pro Enhanced" to offer better view distance, foliage, textures, post-processing, and shading.
The Xbox version of Riven incorporates similar enhancements, carrying over improvements originally included in the Myst remake. This version supports Xbox Play Anywhere and includes ray-traced reflections alongside the same Performance Mode found on the PS5. It also allows gameplay in 4K resolution with HDR enabled on supported displays. Notably, the Xbox version of Myst is currently available for purchase, while the full launch for both titles across all new platforms is scheduled for May 19.
Cyan Worlds has undertaken a series of modernisation efforts for these classic franchises beginning in earnest in 2020. The developer first introduced a VR version of Myst for Meta's Quest headsets, which provided a proper 3D representation of the game's world. A non-VR PC and Mac version followed in 2021, with an iOS release arriving in 2023. Work on remaking Riven commenced more recently in 2024, launching simultaneously for PC, Mac, and Quest.
This expansion to console and Microsoft Store platforms marks a significant step in the games' evolution, bringing the immersive worlds of Myst and Riven to a wider audience of console gamers. The updates ensure that the original experiences remain accessible with contemporary graphical fidelity and interaction options.
