Cowboys-Giants opener puts Prescott’s record chase under focus
Dallas enters its scheduled visit to New York as a three-point favourite, with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb central to the matchup.
The Dallas Cowboys are scheduled to visit the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, 13 September, in an NFL Week 1 game beginning at 8:20 p.m. ET. Fox Sports reports that the fixture is expected to be available through television broadcast and live stream, although complete viewing details could not be verified.
Prescott is Dallas’s confirmed starting quarterback and enters the game five passing touchdowns short of tying Tony Romo for the franchise’s all-time record. He started all 17 games in 2025, throwing for 4,552 yards and recording an NFL-leading 404 completions, according to Fox Sports.
Dallas will also be without Tyler Smith for an expected four to six weeks following thumb surgery. The absence adds an early availability question for a Cowboys offence built around Prescott’s control of the passing game.
CeeDee Lamb remains a key receiving option after recording his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard season in 2025, despite missing three games. His role is likely to be important as Dallas tests the Giants’ coverage and defensive assignments.
New York’s offence carries its own uncertainty, with Dart projected to start against the division rival. That status is not confirmed. Fox Sports also reported that the Giants had the NFL’s lowest catch rate in goal-to-go situations in 2025, at 21.7 per cent.
The betting market reported by Fox Sports has Dallas as a three-point favourite, with a consensus total of 47.5 points. The spread moved from Giants plus 1.5 at opening to Giants plus three, while the total fell from 48; those figures are time-sensitive and do not determine the result.
