Claude Adds Gmail Controls for Reading, Organising and Sending Emails

Anthropic’s Claude can now connect directly to Gmail, enabling it to search and read messages, organise inboxes with labels and threads, and draft, reply to, forward and send emails, according to a report by Engadget.

The connector is accessed through Claude’s Connectors settings. Users sign in with Google and grant permissions before asking Claude to work with messages through the usual chat interface.

Approval controls are built into the integration. Users can set individual tools to “Always allow”, “Needs approval” or “Block”, with read-only actions reportedly allowed by default and write or delete actions set to require approval.

That includes actions such as sending or replying to emails, creating or deleting labels and marking messages as spam. Users can change the settings through the chat interface, while Team and Enterprise plan owners can control whether members may perform actions without repeated approval.

Engadget reported that the connector is available across Claude plans, although Team and Enterprise users may need an administrator to enable it. Availability and permissions may vary by plan, account type, organisation policy and region.
