Christian Gonzalez reportedly agrees to record US$135m Patriots extension
The reported four-year deal would make the New England cornerback the NFL’s highest-paid player at his position and set a Patriots contract record.
New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez has reportedly agreed to a four-year, US$135 million contract extension, according to Yahoo Sports, citing NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
If confirmed, the deal would make the 24-year-old the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback and the highest-paid player in Patriots history. It would surpass the franchise’s previous record, a four-year, US$104 million contract signed by defensive lineman Milton Williams in 2025.
The reported agreement would also be only the second NFL cornerback contract worth more than US$130 million. Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon reportedly signed a US$132 million extension the previous month.
Gonzalez was selected by New England in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He was named a second-team All-Pro in 2024 and selected for the Pro Bowl last season.
His early career has been affected by injuries, including a torn labrum and dislocated shoulder that limited him to four games as a rookie. He later recorded career highs of 69 total tackles and 10 pass deflections.
The Patriots had exercised Gonzalez’s fifth-year option, while negotiations on an extension continued through training camp. The available reporting does not include official confirmation from the club or Gonzalez, or details on guaranteed money, contract structure or signing status.
