Chelsea agree record £117m transfer for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers
The 23-year-old England international joins from Aston Villa on a six-year contract, surpassing the previous club record held by Enzo Fernandez.

Chelsea have agreed a club-record £117m transfer fee to sign England international midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa. The 23-year-old is set to sign a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with an option for a further year, marking a significant shift in the club’s financial strategy under new management.
The deal establishes a new benchmark for an English player, eclipsing the £116m fee Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson earlier this summer. It also surpasses Chelsea’s previous club record of £107m, paid for Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez in 2023.
Rogers is scheduled to undergo a medical on Monday upon his return from international duty with England at the 2026 World Cup. During his tenure at Villa Park, the midfielder scored 21 goals in 85 league appearances and was part of the squad that won the Europa League last season.
The transfer occurs as new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso begins shaping his squad for the upcoming Premier League season. Alonso was appointed on a four-year contract, commencing on 1 July, following the sacking of Liam Rosenior after the club’s defeat in the FA Cup final.
Interim manager Calum McFarlane is currently overseeing the final two matches of the season against Tottenham and Sunderland. Rogers, who previously played for Manchester City before joining Middlesbrough and subsequently Aston Villa, has made 21 senior appearances for England, scoring once.
