Dodgers secure fifth straight NL West title, extend postseason streak

The Los Angeles Dodgers have clinched their fifth consecutive National League West division title, a feat that marks their 13th championship in the division over the past 14 seasons. The milestone was secured following an 8-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday, further entrenching the franchise’s hold on the division.

Kyle Tucker was the central figure in the win, recording four hits and three runs batted in. His performance included a two-run home run in the first inning off Brady Singer, leaving him just a triple short of achieving the cycle. Tucker’s offensive output was instrumental in establishing an early lead that the Dodgers would not relinquish.

The Dodgers extended their lead to seven runs in the fourth inning, capitalising on a two-run double by Max Muncy and an RBI single by Josue De Paula. On the mound, Landon Knack secured his first major league victory since May 31 of last year, allowing four hits over four scoreless innings. Justin Wrobleski also contributed, retiring his first 11 batters in three innings without allowing a baserunner.

With a record of 93 wins and 60 losses, the Dodgers now hold a nine-and-a-half-game lead over the second-place San Diego Padres. The team is currently competing with the Milwaukee Brewers, who entered Thursday with a 95-57 record, for the top seed in the National League.

This divisional clinch represents the fourth earliest in Dodgers history, following dates in 2019, 2022, and 2023. The team had already guaranteed a wild-card berth on Monday, ensuring their 14th consecutive postseason appearance.

The Dodgers are now poised to challenge the record for the longest consecutive postseason streak, currently held by the Atlanta Braves, who achieved the mark from 1991 to 2005. Manager Dave Roberts noted that reliever Edwin Diaz has completed his minor league rehabilitation assignment for neck inflammation and is expected to be activated this weekend.
