Celine Dion set for first full concert in six years in Paris
The Canadian singer is due to open a sold-out 26-date residency after years of treatment for Stiff Person Syndrome.
Celine Dion is due to return to the stage in Paris on Saturday for her first full concert in six years, opening a sold-out residency at the Plenitude Arena outside the French capital.
About 30,000 fans are expected at the opening show, with the residency comprising 16 performances in September and October and a further 10 scheduled for next May.
Dion disclosed her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome in December 2022. She has said the rare autoimmune disorder caused stiffness and spasms, forcing her to cancel concerts and raising uncertainty about whether she would perform again.
Her return to live performance follows a surprise appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, where she sang Edith Piaf’s “Hymn to Love”.
Paris has built a wider programme around the comeback, including singalongs, karaoke parties, costume contests and tribute cruises on the Seine. France 24 reported that fans also gathered outside Dion’s hotel and at a free singalong before the opening show.
Dion has sold around 260 million albums in English and French during a career spanning four decades.
