Cedric Gray’s season opener in doubt after UTV crash

Tennessee Titans linebacker Cedric Gray has been placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol after a utility terrain vehicle crash over the holiday weekend, putting his availability for Sunday’s season opener in doubt.

The Titans announced the move on Monday. Gray was driving the UTV and suffered a concussion and other injuries the team characterised as minor. Details of the crash have not been disclosed.

A team source told ESPN’s Turron Davenport, as reported by Yahoo Sports, that alcohol and reckless driving were not involved. Gray could still be cleared to play if he completes the concussion protocol in time.

Gray, 23, led Tennessee with 164 total tackles in 2024, his first season as a starter. The Titans selected him in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft from North Carolina.

Tennessee will host the New York Jets in its season opener on Sunday. The Titans went 3-14 last season and missed the playoffs for a second consecutive season.
