Cardinals secure extra-innings victory amid spontaneous fan display
Yohel Pozo’s walk-off single caps 5-4 win over Royals as club baseball team creates energetic atmosphere at Busch Stadium

The St Louis Cardinals defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-4 in 11 innings on Friday night, with Yohel Pozo delivering a walk-off single in the bottom of the final frame. The victory, secured at Busch Stadium, was marked by a notable surge in crowd energy originating from a group of shirtless spectators in the right-field stands.
The individuals responsible for the display were identified as members of the Stephen F. Austin club baseball team, who had travelled to St Louis for the National Club Baseball Association DII World Series. Following an afternoon loss to Grand Valley, the team attended the evening match and spontaneously began removing their shirts in an empty section as the game tightened.
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol praised the initiative, stating he would ensure the group attended every subsequent game. He described the atmosphere as "awesome" and noted that the energy created a difficult environment for visiting teams. Marmol emphasised that the display was not only entertaining but also functionally beneficial to his squad during the extended contest.
Stephen F. Austin player Bryce Bradford confirmed there was no pre-planned strategy behind the action. He noted that the group initially hesitated but proceeded after the game situation became close, with the trend subsequently spreading to other fans throughout the stadium. Bradford expressed satisfaction that their spontaneous effort contributed to a lively environment.
The win improved the Cardinals’ season record to 26-18. The team currently sits 2.5 games behind the division-leading Chicago Cubs and remains in a National League wild-card position.
