Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love sidelined with ankle injury ahead of Cowboys clash
Head coach Mike LaFleur confirms Love’s soreness exceeded expectations, prompting a reevaluation next week while veterans James Conner and Trey Benson continue their recovery processes.

Arizona Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love will miss the upcoming week of training and Saturday night’s preseason match against the Dallas Cowboys due to a sore ankle. The injury was sustained during Thursday night’s preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders, with head coach Mike LaFleur confirming the absence on Saturday.
LaFleur noted that Love’s condition deteriorated on Friday, stating the player was “more sore than we were anticipating.” Despite the setback, the coach observed that Love remained in good spirits. The team will reevaluate the rookie’s ankle condition next week to determine his availability for the remainder of the preseason schedule.
In Love’s absence, the Cardinals’ running back rotation will be reshuffled. Tyler Allgeier is set to start the rotation, followed by Bam Knight and Corey Kiner. Love had participated in 23 snaps during the previous game, recording 11 rushes for 58 yards and three receptions for 14 yards.
The backfield injury concerns extend beyond Love. Rookie Trey Benson, who is recovering from a flare-up in his surgically repaired left knee, was described by LaFleur as “progressing.” However, the coach declined to provide a specific timeline for Benson’s return, noting only that his status is improving.
Veteran James Conner, who missed 14 games last season with a right foot injury, is also listed as progressing. Conner has yet to participate in 11-on-11 drills or play in the preseason. LaFleur emphasised a “return to performance” philosophy for the veteran, prioritising his ability to perform at a high level over a fixed return date.
