Chiefs' Harrison Butker Nails 68-Yard Field Goal Against Buccaneers
NFL Preseason

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker delivered a 69-yard field goal during an NFL Week 2 preseason contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The attempt, executed with under 10 seconds remaining in the second quarter following a fourth-down defensive stop, is currently recognised as the unofficial longest field goal in National Football League history.

While the kick exceeds the current official record, it does not yet count towards the league’s official statistics due to the preseason nature of the game. Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little holds the official record with a 68-yard field goal against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chiefs’ new mark, however, establishes a new franchise record for Kansas City and the longest field goal in Arrowhead Stadium history.

Butker, who was drafted by the Chiefs in 2017 from Georgia Tech, has maintained a career field goal accuracy of 251 out of 285 attempts. Prior to this week’s performance, his personal best was a 62-yarder against the Buffalo Bills in the 2022 season. The recent achievement adds to a list of accomplishments for the kicker, who was the highest-paid in his position until Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey signed a contract extension this offseason.

The performance comes as the Chiefs prepare for their 2026 campaign, having re-signed tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who returned from a torn ACL. The team is scheduled to open its regular season at home against the Denver Broncos on Monday, 14 September, for an AFC West showdown.

According to Fox Sports, the kick represents a significant milestone for Butker and the organisation, even if the official league record remains pending confirmation.
