Brighton’s 3-0 win sends Arsenal off top as Manchester City move ahead
Brighton ended Arsenal’s four-match winning run at the Amex Stadium, allowing Manchester City to lead the table on goal difference without playing.
Brighton & Hove Albion defeated defending champions Arsenal 3-0 at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, ending the London club’s perfect start to its Premier League title defence.
Pascal Gross and Charalampos Kostoulas scored from outside the penalty area in the first half before Chema Andres completed the result after the interval, heading in Gross’s corner at the back post.
The defeat moved Arsenal off top spot and put Manchester City temporarily ahead on goal difference, despite City not playing. City can move three points clear by beating Sunderland on Sunday.
The result extended a strong week for Brighton, who followed a 5-0 league win over Coventry with a comeback victory over Manchester United in the English League Cup.
Brighton had also beaten Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium in May 2023. The result ended Arsenal’s four-match league winning run and reinforced Brighton’s recent record against the defending champions.
