Brennan takes fourth Vuelta stage win in sprint finish
Britain’s Matthew Brennan has won stage 16 of the 2026 Vuelta a España, strengthening his record in his first Grand Tour.
Matthew Brennan has claimed his fourth stage victory of the 2026 Vuelta a España, winning the 181-kilometre stage 16 in Palos de la Frontera.
The 21-year-old British rider, competing in his first Grand Tour with Team Visma-Lease-a-Bike, prevailed in a bunch sprint after the peloton absorbed an early five-rider breakaway with about 23 kilometres remaining.
Brennan’s win continues a standout Vuelta campaign. BBC Sport reported that he had originally planned for one stage victory; he celebrated the latest result by holding up four fingers.
Enric Mas retained the general classification lead, remaining 2 minutes 6 seconds ahead of Felix Gall. Primož Roglič was a further four seconds behind Gall, according to BBC Sport.
Stage 17 is scheduled to cover 185 kilometres from Dos Hermanas to Seville, with another sprint finish expected.
