Bolton’s competitive displays yield no points as losing run reaches four

Bolton Wanderers’ results have deteriorated into a four-match losing run, with Yahoo Sports fan writer Kasey Smith arguing that the team’s performances have not been reflected in its points tally.

Smith described Bolton’s recent displays against strong Championship opponents as brave and competitive. The assessment followed Tuesday’s defeat by West Ham, in which Bolton recovered from a deficit to lead 2–1 before conceding an equaliser four minutes later and a late winner.

West Ham’s victory took the club to the top of the division. Smith also pointed to Millwall and Sheffield United as demanding recent opponents, adding to the frustration around Bolton’s failure to convert promising performances into results.

The run has also brought changes in goal. Gavin Bazunu made his debut after Jack Bonham’s costly error against Millwall. Smith judged Bazunu more composed, while acknowledging that the late West Ham winner was a weak effort that the debutant should have saved.

According to the source, Bolton have conceded 10 goals across their past three matches and have now slipped into the relegation zone. Cardiff’s upcoming visit is therefore significant, with the Welsh side described as being in a similar position.

Smith’s view is that matches against teams in that part of the competition will determine whether Bolton can turn their recent performances into the points required to stay up.
