Bo Nix returns to Broncos lineup as Packers take early lead in preseason clash
Denver’s quarterback made his first start since last season’s playoffs, completing six of nine passes, while defensive back Riley Moss exited with a rib injury.

The Denver Broncos hosted the Green Bay Packers for their second preseason game of the 2026 season at Empower Field at Mile High. The match marked the club’s first home fixture of the new season cycle, providing a key test for the roster as it prepares for the regular season.
Quarterback Bo Nix took the field in the first half, returning from a season-ending ankle injury sustained during the previous season’s divisional playoffs. Nix had been held out of the earlier preseason opener due to concerns regarding the artificial turf playing surface. In his limited return, he completed six of nine passes for 76 yards.
The Packers established an early lead with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Christian Watson. The scoring play appeared to result from a potential miscommunication in coverage, with defensive back Tillman gesturing to teammates after the play. Green Bay took a 7-0 lead following the successful extra point.
Injury concerns arose for the Broncos when defensive back Riley Moss suffered a rib injury. Moss was seen in the medical tent before being walked to the locker room and was subsequently ruled questionable. Jahdae Barron replaced him at cornerback for the remainder of the game.
On the offensive line, Calvin Throckmorton started at centre for the Broncos. Luke Wattenberg and Alex Forsyth were noted as working their way back from injuries, while rookie Gavin Ortega featured in the starting lineup changes.
According to coverage from Yahoo Sports, the game was scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Mile High time on Friday, 21 August. The Broncos’ defensive line limited the Packers to just five yards on two rushing attempts during the opening drive.
