Broncos vs. Packers: Bo Nix looked real good in preseason return
NFL Preseason

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix made his return to the field for the first time since January during the team’s second preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. The match, held at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado, saw the Broncos suffer a 33-13 defeat, marking the Packers’ first preseason victory over Denver in three seasons.

Nix led two drives that resulted in 10 points, providing the bulk of the Broncos’ offensive production on the night. On his first drive, he completed three of five passes for 60 yards and a touchdown. This included a 35-yard pass to Jaylen Waddle and a 21-yard touchdown strike to RJ Harvey, which tied the game temporarily. A catch by Courtland Sutton was initially ruled incomplete but was confirmed as a completion on instant replay.

The Broncos’ performance was further impacted by a rough outing from backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham in the second and third quarters. Stidham’s struggles allowed the Packers to capitalise, scoring 16 points in the second quarter alone. The Green Bay Packers’ final score of 33 points reflected their ability to stack points during Denver’s defensive lapses.

For the Packers, starting quarterback Jordan Love’s night ended after the opening drive. Tyrod Taylor replaced Love at quarterback for the Packers’ second drive of the game. The Broncos’ first-team defence managed to dispatch that drive quickly, but the damage had already been done in the first half.

The result provides the Broncos with a clear path forward as they prepare for their preseason finale next week. While Nix’s return was highly anticipated and he delivered key plays, the team must address the inconsistency shown by Stidham to ensure a stronger performance in the upcoming match.

According to Yahoo Sports, the Broncos got what they hoped for from Nix and the offence, but the overall result highlights the need for improved execution from the backup quarterback. The game serves as a significant data point for the coaching staff as they evaluate the roster ahead of the regular season.
