Mesh, Automattic’s CRM for everyone, comes to Android
The relationship manager, formerly known as Clay, now offers platform-specific features for phones, tablets, and foldables

Automattic has officially released Mesh, its AI-powered personal relationship management application, for Android devices. The app, which was acquired by the WordPress.com parent company last year and previously operated under the name Clay, is now available as a free download on Google Play for phones, tablets, and foldables. The release marks a significant expansion for the platform, which allows users to visualise and track personal and professional networks while adding notes and receiving reminders to maintain contact.

The Android iteration features customisations designed to leverage the operating system’s multitasking capabilities. Users can utilise split-screen and pop-up views to access Mesh while simultaneously using other applications such as email or messaging services. Additional platform-specific enhancements include keyboard shortcuts for foldables and tablets, in-app search functionality, and home screen widgets that utilise Material You colour matching to align with the user’s wallpaper. The application also supports real-time synchronisation across devices.

A key component of the Android launch is the integration with Automattic’s all-in-one messaging application, Beeper. Mesh users can currently draft texts directly to contacts within Beeper or utilise deep links to view Mesh profiles. Automattic has indicated that broader plans exist to tie the two products more closely together, aiming to improve productivity for users managing relationships across various platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram, Signal, and LinkedIn. However, the company confirmed there are no bundled subscription plans with Beeper or other products to announce at this time.

The application includes early access to Nexus AI, a tool designed to help users navigate their extensive networks. This feature allows individuals to query their connections based on specific criteria, such as identifying who works at a particular company, resides in a certain city, or possesses expertise in a specific topic. Automattic is also experimenting with voice-based, hands-free experiences and enhanced business card scanning capabilities to further streamline data entry and interaction.

Privacy remains a central pillar of the service, with Automattic stating that personal information stored in Mesh is not shared or utilised for ad targeting. The business model relies on subscriptions, with the app free for up to 1,000 contacts and offering higher tiers for unlimited contacts and additional features. Approximately 70% of current customers use the application for business purposes, particularly executives managing larger teams, though the company maintains that features must serve both professional and consumer use cases.
