Audi unveils compact A2 E-tron with 401-mile WLTP range

Audi has announced the A2 E-tron, a compact electric crossover it describes as its most affordable and efficient production electric vehicle. Pricing starts at £32,200, although the source does not establish whether that configuration offers the model’s maximum range.
The rear-wheel-drive vehicle is initially intended for the European market. North American availability is not planned in the near term, and Audi has not provided a production timetable or confirmed plans for wider distribution.
Audi reports a drag coefficient of 0.24, supported by features including flush door handles, enclosed underbody treatment and air-flow improvements around the wheel arches. Depending on the motor and battery configuration, energy consumption can be as low as 12.8 kWh per 100 kilometres.
Selected configurations offer up to 645 kilometres, or 401 miles, under the European WLTP testing cycle. That figure is a test-cycle result rather than an independently verified measure of real-world driving range.
The A2 E-tron will also offer bidirectional charging, including vehicle-to-load through an outlet in the boot and vehicle-to-home functions with compatible equipment. Its cabin includes combined 11.9-inch digital instrument and 12.8-inch touchscreen displays, alongside a Fidlock magnetic fastening system for storage accessories.
The launch comes after Audi abandoned its previous EV-only pledge, leaving room for a mix of petrol, hybrid and electric vehicles. The company has not ruled out future changes to the A2 E-tron’s market availability.
