Tesla sets 10 October reveal for long-delayed second-generation Roadster
Tesla has announced a reveal date for its second-generation Roadster, while teasing a possible flying capability that remains unexplained and unverified.
Tesla says it will reveal its second-generation all-electric Roadster on 10 October, nearly a decade after unveiling the vehicle’s prototype.
The company announced the date on its official X account, and its website reportedly features a countdown to the event. The announcement follows repeated delays to the Roadster’s promised timetable since 2017.
Tesla has also teased a possible flying capability for the vehicle. Engadget reported that an accompanying image may suggest cold-gas thrusters linked to a SpaceX model, but Tesla has not explained the feature and it has not been independently verified.
The company previously claimed the Roadster would accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds, reach a top speed above 250 mph and offer more than 600 miles of range. Those figures were associated with the 2017 prototype and may not apply to the final vehicle.
Earlier reported pricing was US$200,000 for the base model and US$250,000 for a Founder’s Edition. Some reservation holders who paid US$50,000 have reportedly cancelled, including OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman and technology YouTuber Marques Brownlee.
Tesla’s history of postponing promised dates means the 10 October reveal remains subject to delay.
