Astros restart Mike Burrows’ rehab as Steven Okert awaits assessment
Mike Burrows will pitch three innings for Triple-A Sugar Land this weekend, while Steven Okert’s next rehabilitation steps will follow a medical appointment.
Houston Astros right-hander Mike Burrows is set to restart his rehabilitation assignment with a three-inning outing for Triple-A Sugar Land this weekend, according to manager Joe Espada.
Burrows has been on the injured list since 7 July with right elbow neuritis. His rehabilitation was paused after his third start because of right shoulder inflammation.
Espada said Burrows could return to the Astros’ pitching staff before the end of the regular season if his recovery progresses well. The potential return remains conditional on his rehabilitation.
Burrows went 4–9 with a 5.99 earned run average in his first season with Houston before the injury.
Left-hander Steven Okert, who has been sidelined since 1 September with a right hamstring strain, has been playing catch. He is due to see a doctor on Thursday, with that assessment expected to determine his next steps.
Okert recorded a 2.13 ERA across 68 appearances before his injury and has been among Espada’s most trusted bullpen options.
