Talks regarding the potential transfer have accelerated in recent days, although it remains uncertain whether the proposed fee will align with Newcastle’s valuation.
The club is determined to strengthen its squad to build on last season’s title success, yet it maintains a hardline stance on financial limits. Arsenal has established a strict maximum valuation for Guimaraes and is unwilling to exceed this amount, refusing to overpay despite the player’s keenness to join the north London side. Newcastle are aware of Guimaraes’ preference to move to Arsenal this summer, but the financial gap remains a significant hurdle.
This disciplined approach mirrors Arsenal’s recent conduct in the transfer market. The club previously declined the opportunity to match Chelsea’s £117m offer for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, having refused to go above its own £80m valuation for the player. Despite being given the chance to match the Chelsea bid, Arsenal held firm on its price ceiling, a strategy it is now applying to the Guimaraes negotiations.
Beyond the midfield, Arsenal has expressed a major interest in Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, who is regarded as the club’s first-choice defensive target.
