Arsenal have reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign defender Ezri Konsa for a fee exceeding £50m. On the international stage, Konsa played in every match of England’s World Cup campaign, where the team finished third. Following the tournament, Emery granted the defender four weeks of rest, meaning he did not feature in Villa’s pre-season matches, including their 2-1 defeat to Paris St-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. Emery noted that Konsa, along with Emiliano Martinez and Ollie Watkins, would join the squad after the final warm-up match against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Aston Villa now faces significant uncertainty regarding squad stability ahead of their season opener at Brighton. With the transfer window closing in two weeks, the club risks losing the core of its squad, as goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is also expected to leave.
