Apple’s iOS 27 to add customisable Siri pace and expressivity controls
Reported beta features would let users adjust Siri’s delivery, but full voice customisation is limited to selected newer iPhone and iPad hardware.
Apple is expected to introduce more expressive Siri voice controls with iOS 27, including settings for speaking pace and expressivity. The features were reported by Engadget after appearing in an iOS 27 beta.
Full access is reportedly limited to the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air, along with iPads using an M4 chip or newer and 12GB of RAM. Compatible devices will be able to adjust how dynamic and natural Siri’s delivery sounds.
In the reported beta, pace and expressivity sliders were available for American and British voice options. The controls change Siri’s emotional emphasis and inflection, with lower settings producing a more neutral, robotic delivery. The feature does not necessarily add more voice varieties to Siri’s existing menu.
The new controls are expected to arrive with iOS 27’s rollout in mid-September, although beta features, supported languages, menus and hardware eligibility may change before release. Older compatible devices may receive the operating system with fewer Apple Intelligence features.
Users do not need to wait for iOS 27 to change Siri’s voice or response behaviour. Current iOS and iPadOS versions allow changes to Siri’s voice, speaking rate and spoken-response settings, while Accessibility controls include Siri pause time, transcription and recognition for atypical speech.
