Apple rolls out iOS 27 with Siri AI beta and expanded safety controls
Apple has begun releasing major software updates across its platforms, adding a beta version of Siri AI, new Apple Intelligence tools and broader parental controls.
Apple has begun rolling out iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 and updates for watchOS, visionOS and tvOS, according to an Apple Newsroom announcement. The releases add Siri AI in English beta, new Apple Intelligence features and changes spanning performance, connectivity, search and design.
Apple says Siri AI can understand personal context across messages, emails and photos, respond to onscreen content, connect to the web for updated answers and take actions across system apps. A dedicated Siri app synchronises conversational history across Apple devices through iCloud. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish is planned for October.
The next generation of Apple Intelligence adds photo-editing tools and Image Playground, which can create images in a range of styles. Apple also says image metadata and planned support for the SynthID standard will help users identify images generated or edited with artificial intelligence.
The updates introduce new controls for children, including approval for websites and contacts, expanded Communication Safety protections and a redesigned Screen Time experience. Parents can set daily allowances for entertainment, games and social media apps, and use schedules to manage app access during different parts of the day.
Apple claims apps can launch up to 30 per cent faster on iPhone and iPad, while photos can load up to 70 per cent faster after capture and AirDrop transfers can be up to 80 per cent faster. The company also cites faster file transfers on iPad and improved network transitions, search and Liquid Glass design options.
