Apple issues update for iPhone 18 Pro Max service fault on AT&T
Apple says a small number of US users may lose cellular service. Updates are intended to prevent the fault, while phones already affected require replacement.

Apple has confirmed a cellular service issue affecting a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on AT&T in the US. The company says the fault can cause a device to lose service and be unable to make calls.
Apple released iOS 27.0.1 and a carrier settings update to help prevent the problem. The company is urging iPhone 18 Pro Max users to install the software update and check for the latest carrier settings.
Phones affected may show “SOS” instead of signal bars, with calls, texts and 4G or 5G data unavailable. The issue does not affect every iPhone 18 Pro Max on AT&T, according to Apple.
For devices that have already lost cellular service, Apple says an update or restore will not resolve the fault; the phone needs to be replaced. The company’s guidance was reported by Engadget, which cited a statement Apple provided to 9to5Mac.
The cause has not been established. Engadget noted the US iPhone 18 Pro Max uses a Qualcomm modem, but reported no confirmed link between the modem and the service issue.
