Amina Orfi becomes youngest women’s squash world number one at 19
The Egyptian reached the top of the Professional Squash Association rankings after defeating Hania El Hammamy in the Qatar Classic final.
Amina Orfi has become the youngest women’s world number one in squash at 19 years and two months, according to Al Jazeera, after winning the Qatar Classic.
The Egyptian defeated compatriot Hania El Hammamy 3-2 in the final to claim her first Platinum title, third major victory and 15th career win. The result also moved her above El Hammamy in the latest weekly Professional Squash Association rankings.
Orfi surpassed the previous record set by New Zealander Susan Devoy, who became world number one at 20 years and two months in 1984.
The milestone follows a significant year for Orfi. In May, she became the youngest world champion at 18 years and 10 months after defeating Nour El-Sherbini in the World Championships final.
Orfi is the reigning senior and junior world champion and is reported to be the first player to hold both Professional Squash Association titles simultaneously. She had been ranked among the world’s top three since October 2025.
