American Legion World Series 2026: Northwest and Great Lakes Set for Championship Showdown in Shelby

The 99th edition of the American Legion World Series has reached its final stage in Shelby, North Carolina, culminating in a championship matchup between the Northwest and Great Lakes regional champions. The tournament, which features the winners of eight regional competitions held in early August, has narrowed its field from a wide bracket to two teams vying for the national title.

The path to the final was determined through a round-robin format designed to identify the top four semifinalists. The competition was divided into the Stripes Bracket, comprising Central Plains, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-South, and Western teams, and the Stars Bracket, featuring Great Lakes, Northeast, Northwest, and Southeast representatives.

Semifinal action on Monday, 17 August, produced decisive results that set the stage for the championship. The Northwest team, representing Portland, Oregon, secured their place in the final with a 3-1 victory over the Mid-South representative from Tupelo, Mississippi. In the other semifinal, the Great Lakes team from Midland, Michigan, defeated the Central Plains squad from Lincoln, Nebraska, with a 7-4 score.

The championship game is scheduled for Tuesday, 18 August, at 6 p.m. ET. This final contest will determine the new title holder, as last year’s champion, Chesapeake from Virginia, failed to qualify for the 2026 series. The Great Lakes region holds the most recent historical title in the field, having won the championship in 2009.

Broadcast coverage for the concluding matches will be handled by ESPNU, with live streaming available via the ESPN app and fubo. While ESPN+ has streamed every game of the tournament, the semifinals and the final are prioritized for linear television and broader digital distribution. The event continues to serve as a premier showcase for high school-age baseball talent, with Shelby remaining the traditional host for the final stage of the competition.
