Amazon cargo plane overruns runway at Miami airport

An Amazon Air Boeing 767-300 operated by 21 Air overran the runway while landing at Miami International Airport on 6 September, The Verge reported. The aircraft was reported to have crashed into vehicles and caught fire, with multiple injuries reported.

The flight, identified by the FAA as 21 Air Flight 7598, arrived at about 2pm local time after departing from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The number and severity of injuries, as well as the extent of the damage, were not immediately clear.

Flights at Miami International Airport were grounded after the incident. More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units attended, with reports stating that the aircraft was on fire and producing heavy smoke.

Amazon said it was working with local authorities and officials to establish what happened, while prioritising the safety, wellbeing and care of those involved. No cause for the runway overrun was reported.
