Alonso’s Aston Martin deal keeps Dakar plans in view
Aston Martin has confirmed Fernando Alonso will race in Formula 1 through at least 2027. Reports say the deal may also support another Dakar Rally campaign.

Aston Martin has announced Fernando Alonso will remain with the team for at least the 2027 Formula 1 season, alongside Lance Stroll. Reports say the extension may also include backing for Alonso to return to the Dakar Rally.
The Dakar support, vehicle plans and expected return of co-driver Marc Coma have not been officially confirmed in the source material. Alonso and Coma finished 13th overall in the 2020 rally, when Alonso competed with Toyota.
The 2027 event is scheduled to run in Saudi Arabia from 1 to 15 January. Morocco is reportedly being considered as an alternative host, but the final location and route remain uncertain.
Reports say Prodrive could build and run an Aston Martin rally vehicle using a platform transferred from Dacia’s rally-raid programme. The plans remain prospective.
Alonso joined Aston Martin in 2023 and won Formula One titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006. His confirmed 2027 commitment secures his place in the team’s Formula 1 line-up, while any Dakar return remains unconfirmed.
