Alonso to stay with Aston Martin for 2027 Formula One season
Aston Martin will keep its driver lineup unchanged, with Lance Stroll alongside the two-time champion. The extension’s terms were not disclosed.
Fernando Alonso will race for Aston Martin in the 2027 Formula One season, the team has announced, confirming an unchanged lineup with Lance Stroll.
Alonso said in a team statement that he remains motivated and believes he has the speed and determination to compete at the highest level. The extension secures his place for at least 2027; its duration beyond that season was not specified.
Stroll, son of team owner Lawrence Stroll, will partner Alonso for a fifth consecutive year. Lawrence Stroll said the team’s immediate focus was improving performance, while describing its driver pairing as part of its long-term ambitions.
Alonso joined Aston Martin in 2023 and has recorded eight podiums, including two second-place finishes. He won Formula One titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006.
Al Jazeera reported that Aston Martin had scored three points in 15 rounds this season, all from Alonso, and stood 10th of 11 teams.
