A.J. Brown’s New England Patriots debut ended early in the third quarter of the team’s 13–10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, with an ankle injury forcing the wide receiver out of the season opener.

Brown was attempting to catch a low pass from quarterback Drake Maye when his ankle bent awkwardly after becoming trapped between the ground and Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett. He was assessed in the medical tent, went to the locker room and was initially listed as questionable to return before being ruled out.

He finished with three catches for 26 yards and also drew a 34-yard pass-interference penalty on an underthrown pass from Maye.

CBS Sports reported concern about a possible right high-ankle eversion sprain, but no diagnosis or recovery timeline was provided.

Brown joined New England from Philadelphia in a 1 June trade involving a 2028 first-round pick. His acquisition formed part of the Patriots’ effort to strengthen Maye’s supporting cast.
