A.J. Brown leaves Patriots debut with ankle injury
New England’s new receiver was ruled questionable to return after leaving early in the third quarter against Seattle.
A.J. Brown left his first game for the New England Patriots early in the third quarter on Wednesday after suffering an ankle injury against the Seattle Seahawks.
The injury occurred after quarterback Drake Maye targeted Brown on third-and-four. When the pass was knocked away, a Seahawks defender rolled onto Brown’s leg.
Brown walked from the field under his own power and was assessed in the blue medical tent before going to the locker room. He later entered the X-ray room, according to the NBC broadcast. The result of that assessment was not provided.
The Patriots ruled Brown questionable to return. Before leaving, he had made three receptions for 26 yards, while a second-quarter pass-interference penalty he drew in the end zone helped set up New England’s first touchdown.
The game was Brown’s first for New England since the Patriots acquired him from the Philadelphia Eagles during the off-season in a reported trade involving first- and fifth-round picks. Fox Sports reported the injury as a developing story.
