New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown is expected to miss at least four weeks after suffering a reported high ankle sprain in the team’s season-opening loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Brown left early in the third quarter after attempting to catch an incomplete pass from Drake Maye. Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett’s knee made contact with Brown’s ankle as he fell.

The Patriots initially listed Brown as questionable to return before ruling him out at the start of the fourth quarter. He finished with three catches for 26 yards and drew a defensive pass interference penalty that helped set up New England’s only touchdown.

Fox Sports reported NFL Network’s assessment of the expected absence. The timeline was not presented as an official Patriots announcement, and the source does not confirm which specific future games Brown will miss.

Brown joined New England during the off-season from the Philadelphia Eagles as a major addition to the receiving group. Coach Mike Vrabel had earlier said Brown’s availability for the Patriots’ Week 2 matchup against Pittsburgh was uncertain.
