Agnes Ngetich lowers women-only half-marathon record in Copenhagen
The Kenyan won the World Athletics Road Running Championships race in 1:05:15, finishing 50 seconds ahead of compatriot Veronica Loleo.
Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich has won the women’s half-marathon at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, lowering the women-only world record by one second with a time of 1:05:15.
According to Al Jazeera Global News, Ngetich moved to the front from the outset and maintained the lead to the finish. Veronica Loleo, also of Kenya, finished second, 50 seconds behind her compatriot.
The previous women-only record was set by Kenya’s Peres Jepchirchir when she won the World Half Marathon title in Poland in 2020.
Ngetich also holds the women-only 10km world record. Her latest victory adds to a strong year in which she won the team half-marathon title in Copenhagen and the World Cross Country Championships in Florida in January.
The performance is separate from the overall women’s half-marathon record, which stands at 1:02:52. Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey set that mark in a mixed-gender race at the Valencia Half Marathon in Spain in 2021.
