Afghan officials report three killed in alleged Pakistani air raids
Three members of one family were reportedly killed and four injured in Kunar, while two sites in Paktika were also bombarded, according to Afghan officials.
Afghan officials say alleged air raids by Pakistan killed three members of one family and injured four others in Kunar province on Monday.
Kunar provincial spokesperson Farid Dehqan told Al Jazeera the reported attack struck Nurgal district at about 4am local time. Taliban deputy spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat said at least one house was hit.
Fitrat also said two locations in Barmal district, Paktika province, were bombarded. A shop and an unoccupied house were reportedly destroyed, with no casualties reported.
The claims have not been independently verified. Pakistan had not immediately commented on the reported attacks.
The incidents threaten to renew tensions between the neighbours after nearly three months of relative calm. Relations have been strained since February, when Afghanistan and Pakistan fought their worst clashes in years.
Pakistan accuses Afghanistan’s Taliban government of harbouring armed groups responsible for cross-border attacks, an allegation Kabul denies. The reported raids followed a bombing and gun battle at a police facility in Kohat, Pakistan, which Pakistani officials said killed at least 21 people.
