Zverev, Gauff and Osaka reach US Open last 16

Alexander Zverev, Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka have reached the US Open fourth round, joined by Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek and Mirra Andreeva.

Zverev defeated Alejandro Tabilo 6-2, 7-6(2), 6-2 to continue his campaign for a second Grand Slam title. Gauff, the 2023 champion, beat Cristina Bucsa 6-3, 6-4.

Osaka, a two-time US Open champion, overcame Elise Mertens 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. Al Jazeera reported that the Japanese player managed an Achilles niggle during the match.

American 14th seed Iva Jovic defeated Filipina Alexandra Eala 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 after more than three hours. Jovic will face Gauff in the next round.

Rybakina advanced with a 7-6(6), 6-3 win over Yuliia Starodubtseva and will play Osaka. Swiatek defeated Marie Bouzkova in two tie-break sets, while Andreeva beat Nikola Bartunkova.

The day also brought exits for Americans Taylor Fritz, Madison Keys and Amanda Anisimova. Fritz lost to Francisco Cerundolo in five sets, Keys was beaten by Zheng Qinwen and Anisimova went down to Anastasia Potapova.
