Zverev advances to French Open semi-finals after straight-sets victory over Jodar
Alexander Zverev secures his place in the final four of the 2026 tournament, keeping his pursuit of a first Grand Slam title alive following a dominant performance on the clay courts.

Alexander Zverev has secured his place in the semi-finals of the French Open, defeating Rafael Jodar in straight sets during the quarter-final stage at Roland Garros. The German player won the match with scores of 7-6, 6-1, and 6-3, marking a significant step forward in his campaign at the 2026 tournament.
The victory keeps Zverev’s hopes alive for winning his first Grand Slam title. Jodar, who has established himself as a serious title contender by winning 18 of his 21 clay-court matches in 2026, was unable to match Zverev’s consistency across the three sets.
The tournament has been marked by notable disruptions and upsets. Heavy favourite Jannik Sinner was eliminated after collapsing while serving for the match in the third set. Sinner, who entered the event as the -275 favourite and held the second-shortest pre-tournament odds at a Grand Slam since at least 1990, required medical attention after reporting feeling unwell and experiencing high blood pressure.
Earlier in the competition, Novak Djokovic exited in the third round on Friday, 29 May 2026. He was defeated by Joao Fonseca, who rallied from two sets down to win 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, and 7-5.
While the French Open continues, other sporting events are also underway. Morocco began their World Cup preparations with a 4-0 victory over Madagascar, and the NBA Finals have commenced in San Antonio.
