Yu Zidi completes Asian Games swimming sweep with record 400m win
The 13-year-old won her third individual gold in 4:28.56, improving on China’s previous Games record by about 4.5 seconds.
China’s Yu Zidi won the women’s 400m individual medley in an Asian Games-record 4:28.56, completing a clean sweep of her three individual swimming events.
The 13-year-old finished 3.95 seconds ahead of compatriot Ke Wenxi, who took silver. Japan’s Mio Narita placed third.
Yu had earlier won the 200m butterfly and 200m individual medley, both also in Games-record times. Her 400m result surpassed the previous record, set by China’s Ye Shiwen in 2014, by about 4.5 seconds.
The result adds to Yu’s international record: she became the youngest medallist at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, winning relay bronze for China at age 12.
