Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez placed in concussion protocol following wall collision at Yankee Stadium

New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez was removed from the field during a game against the Texas Rangers after colliding with the outfield wall while attempting a catch. The incident occurred in the top of the first inning at Yankee Stadium, marking a significant interruption to the opening frames of the rubber match between the two clubs.

According to reports from the field, the play began when Yankees shortstop Brandon Nimmo drove a pitch from Rangers pitcher Paul Blackburn 375 feet to left field. Domínguez secured the ball for the out despite sustaining a violent impact with the left-field wall. Following the catch, the outfielder remained down for several minutes while trainers attended to him and manager Aaron Boone observed from nearby.

Despite lying on the ground for a prolonged period, Domínguez was eventually able to rise to his knees and walk to the cart under his own power. However, the club has since placed the 23-year-old in concussion protocol to monitor his condition following the high-impact collision.

Medical staff confirmed that the player will undergo an MRI on his left shoulder to assess the severity of the injury sustained during the play. The specific duration of his absence from the game remains unknown pending the results of the imaging and the ongoing concussion protocol evaluation.

Domínguez, considered one of the Yankees' most promising young players, had been recently recalled from Triple-A to replace starting pitcher Luis Gil, who was placed on the injured list. This recall also coincided with the placement of designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton on the injured list due to a calf strain.

Since his return to the Bronx, Domínguez has appeared in nine games, recording a batting average of .200 with one home run and two doubles. His recall followed a season where he played 123 games and was initially primed to land a starting job for 2026, though the return of free agents Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger had previously forced him back to the minors.

The Yankees entered play on Thursday with a record of 25-12 and hold a slim lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East standings. The outcome of the medical evaluation will determine the immediate availability of the outfielder for the remainder of the series.
