Yahoo Finance ranks top travel insurers for 2026 amid rising policy costs
WorldTrips leads on solvency ratings while Allianz and Seven Corners offer highest medical limits in latest consumer analysis.

Yahoo Finance has released its 2026 ranking of the leading travel insurance providers, evaluating seven major carriers based on coverage limits, plan flexibility, financial strength, and transparency. The analysis highlights a market where premiums typically range between 4% and 10% of total trip costs, underscoring the need for consumers to align policy selection with specific risk profiles and financial exposure.
WorldTrips emerged as the standout for financial reliability, holding the highest financial strength rating of A++ (Superior) from AM Best among the reviewed providers. This rating indicates the strongest capacity to meet contractual obligations, a critical metric for insurers operating in a volatile global environment. The company has maintained its position for over 28 years, previously operating as Tokio Marine HCC.
In terms of coverage depth, Allianz, Seven Corners, and Travel Insured International each offer up to $500,000 in primary medical coverage. Allianz distinguishes itself with a Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) option that reimburses up to 80% of trip costs, the highest percentage among the top seven. Seven Corners matches this with a 75% CFAR reimbursement and an A+ (Superior) rating from AM Best, while Travel Insured International provides a 21-day window for pre-existing condition waivers, exceeding the 14-day limit offered by Allianz and AXA Travel.
Transparency and customer service metrics also played a significant role in the evaluation. IMG Travel Insurance was noted for allowing users to view full coverage limits and quotes without requiring an email address, addressing common friction points in the digital insurance purchasing process. Conversely, AXA Travel recorded the lowest complaint volume with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and offers unique international teleconsultation services via video or phone.
The report advises that travel insurance is most cost-effective for travellers with significant non-refundable expenses or those engaging in high-risk activities. Consumers are urged to verify overlapping coverage with existing credit card benefits and to scrutinise exclusions for specific events, such as trip interruptions due to family emergencies. The full list of top providers includes Allianz, Seven Corners, WorldTrips, IMG Travel Insurance, Travel Guard, Travel Insured International, and AXA Travel.
