Xenon Pharmaceuticals will present six azetukalner-related data sets at the 16th European Epilepsy Congress in Athens from 5 to 9 September 2026, according to Yahoo Finance. The programme includes topline results from the Phase 3 X-TOLE2 study in focal onset seizures.

Two posters will cover patients treated for at least 48 months in the ongoing X-TOLE open-label extension, focusing on long-term seizure reduction and safety. The congress programme will also include research into azetukalner’s mechanism as a KV7 potassium-channel opener.

Additional work will examine how azetukalner binds to KV7 channels and its potential use alongside existing antiseizure medicines. Those findings remain research evidence and do not establish clinical effectiveness in combination treatment.

Xenon has held a pre-NDA meeting with regulators and expects to file for approval of azetukalner in focal onset seizures during the third quarter of 2026. The supplied material does not confirm that an application has been submitted or that the medicine has been approved.

The company is also running three Phase 3 studies of azetukalner in major depressive disorder and bipolar depression, while two early pain candidates targeting NaV1.7 and KV7 are expected to complete Phase 1 testing in the second half of 2026.

The development programme is increasing costs. Xenon’s second-quarter 2026 net loss widened to $110.7 million from $84.7 million a year earlier, while research and development spending rose to $99.2 million from $75.0 million. The company said it had sufficient cash to fund operations into 2029, although several key studies remain ongoing.
