Wrong buses disrupt Asian and Pakistani volleyball teams
A vehicle-assignment error sent South Korea’s team to the wrong venue, cancelling its training, while Pakistan’s match was delayed.
An organiser-provided bus took South Korea’s men’s volleyball team to Okazaki instead of its training venue in Inuyama, forcing the team to cancel training before its match against Taiwan.
The Korea Volleyball Association said the team lost too much time to return and lodged a formal complaint through South Korea’s Olympic committee.
The local organising committee said an error matching teams to vehicles sent both South Korea and Pakistan to the wrong destinations. It apologised and said it would check that team boarding and vehicle destinations were properly matched and displayed.
Pakistan’s men’s team was taken to the wrong arena before its match against Uzbekistan, delaying the game by 45 minutes.
South Korea later beat Taiwan 3-1. The transport problems come amid wider logistical issues at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, including an earlier incident in which South Korea’s men’s basketball team missed training after its bus failed to arrive.
