Former Arsenal striker challenges reports that Nottingham Forest midfielder is not a priority for INEOS

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has publicly endorsed Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare as a viable replacement for Casemiro at Manchester United. Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Wright highlighted Sangare’s physicality and defensive capabilities, arguing he fits the profile required at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are seeking midfield reinforcements as Casemiro’s contract expires this summer. The Brazilian veteran has been in strong form this season, scoring nine goals in 35 appearances and helping the Red Devils finish third in the league. However, he is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of his current deal, prompting United to identify a successor.

INEOS has received praise for their previous transfer strategy, which focused on investing in attack and goalkeeping to address major squad issues. The club is now aiming to replicate that success by addressing midfield weaknesses, with Premier League-proven talent likely to be on the agenda.

Sangare, aged 28, has recorded two goals and three assists in 42 appearances for Forest this season. His career path includes moving to Toulouse as a teenager in 2016, joining PSV Eindhoven in 2020, and signing with Nottingham Forest in 2023. He is known for his dominant presence in the middle of the park, where his ability to win back possession and screen the backline makes him an asset.

Despite his recent performances, a previous report from The Peoples Person suggested Sangare is not a priority for Manchester United. Wright implicitly challenged this view by endorsing him as a suitable option, noting that Sangare’s physical attributes would complement the existing quality around him at United.

Sangare is under contract at Nottingham Forest until 2028, meaning the club could demand a significant transfer fee. However, he is likely to be cheaper than fellow target Elliot Anderson, who is estimated to cost around £100 million. While Sangare’s Premier League experience could appeal to United, he will turn 29 in December, and INEOS have generally preferred signing younger players since taking charge.
